JIXU Architects in collaboration with Yulin Hengtai Architectural Design Institute won the 2nd place in the open competition for the planning and design of Sida Tower in Yulin, Shaanxi Province.

Sida Tower is a high-rise twin tower project covering office, supporting retail and business meeting functions. The project is located at the junction of Tai’an Road and Jianyu Road in the business district of Xisha District in the central city of Yulin, Shaanxi Province. There are 25 floors above the ground and 3 floors under the ground, with a building area of 72852m2 above the ground and 28587 m2 under the ground.

The project is positioned to build a “comprehensive, scientific, open and ecological” urban landmark office building, which is not only a platform to support the development of high-end office enterprises, but also the city image card of Yulin.

The architectural design of Sida Tower is very modern and novel. The feature of the space design is that a bridge is built in to connect the two towers. With this as the main feature, combined with a series of facade treatment methods such as layering, the building and the landscape balconies form an interesting contrast, so that each floor can interact visually and socially. So as to create a new space for people to explore and interact. The double atrium design on the first floor gathers people as the main entrance of each function. The circulation is clear and convenient. The visual interconnection of all floors facilitates social interaction and access. The well-arranged landscape extends into the site from the outside along the park on the street corner, and penetrates into the facade design. The 3rd floor landscape platform and the landscape balcony in the sky connect the interior and exterior, thus realizing the organic linkage between the rich interior and exterior surrounding pleasant environment and open vision. The design strictly follows the aesthetic and novel design criteria, controls the geometric complexity of the shape, and strives to achieve a unique architectural aesthetic balance.

In the architectural form, the design not only fully considers and responds to the site conditions, the interface of the city along the main street, the surrounding landscape, sunlight, skyline, building distance and other factors, but also creates the flow and richness of the form through the horizontal connection of the tower and the concave part of the facade, adding more breathing space for the building to meet the needs of users in various functional scenarios.

In terms of facade, this design draws inspiration from the special geological conditions and texture of the Wave Valley, a famous scenic spot in Yulin, and the surface shape of the Mu Us Desert blown by the wind. The two staggered buildings are connected by continuous dynamic lines to form a whole. In addition to making the building form more dynamic, it also provides users with outdoor landscape platform and rest space and improves the overall office environment by creating some concave areas on the building surface.
